Qasim Al-Rashid ibn Wajeeh - Engine Preacher"Prayers aren't that different from repairing a ship, you know. We all have an inner core, an engine. But because we are uncareful, ungrateful, or unforgiving, we let our engine get damaged. What we need then, is a mechanic. Someone who can fix us. Unlike with ships, that isn't an easy task, so we must ask for the help of higher forces. And Shaiil is as mighty as she is forgiving. You need only ask for her help and she will repair you."Fighting For Shaiil From The Reaches of Salemar At 25 years old Played By felkaranos -------Qasim is a monk from a temple devoted to the sole goddess, the creator of everything and the protector of mankind, Shaiil. Although his faith promotes non-violence, he has extensive martial training. This makes sense however, when one considers the style of combat the monks are trained in. Using a quarterstaff and their own hands as their only weapons, they learn how to move rapidly, deflect blows, redirect an opponents momentum, and stop any kind of attack. A truly skilled monk will never let his opponent land a single blow. Any attacks from the monk's side is merely to wear out an opponent or to temporarily disable them. In addition to his quarterstaff, Qasim carries a wooden mask at his belt, carved into the shape of his symbolic ancestor's face. This mask is used for seremonies, prayer, and combat. He's also a very skilled mechanic, having worked on repairing all kinds of engines for free as a way of being of use to the society around him. -------Following the word of Shaiil, Qasim is a very kind and forgiving man. He always seeks to help out those around him, and frequently offers support for those who need it, whether they wish to pray with him or not. While he wants others too to accept Shaiil as their god, since the word of Shaiil clearly states that faith is needed in order to gain rest at the end of your life, he does not hold any grudges towards those who choose not to. Qasim has a temper that sometimes can get the better of him, however much he tries to keep it down, and his inner peace is frequently disturbed by him scolding himself over such missteps. He is very happy to be of use, which is part of the reason he has now accompanied the keepers. -------Qasim was a brilliant student from he started his education, and was accepted into university at the age of 16, showing mathematic and creative skills far above what would be expected for someone his age. In fact, his skills were far above what would be expected from even the planet's most brilliant physicists and artists. Qasim showed a particular interest in astronomy, exhibiting an unquenchable curiousity about what may exist out there in the unexplored space. But then, on the night before his 18th bithday, that changed. For weeks, he had been increasingly nervous and anxious, eventually breaking down completely. He fainted due to lack of sleep and food, and when he woke up in hospital, he was shaking, sweating, breathing heavily. After that night, he did not continue his studies. Being a religious young man, he talked to his priest about his troubles, and the priest suggested Qasim should spend a period in a monastery, to help him get some peace of mind. Qasim ended up staying and becoming a proper monk.
